Interesting facts

The leading roles are performed by the inhabitants of the villages where the movies have been filmed. The main role in the film "Blood" was played by a cousin of the writer Nodar Dumbadze, who was stumbled upon by the film crew on the way to the family’s home during the first expedition to Georgia. The Ukrainian part of The Peasant Angel tells the story that takes place in the Chernihiv region, but during the writing of the script it was decided to move the events to Western Ukraine, to the village of Nyzhniy Bereziv, where Christmas traditions are preserved. The main role was played by 6-year-old Anatoliy Sulyatytsky, according to the results of the casting, the role of his mother was played by his real mother. At the time of filming in Tuscany, Italy, another actor was approved for the lead role, 15-year-old Giovanni, but at the last moment the director Iryna Pravylo felt that a re-casting was about to take place and the day before filming the group met Yuri Fioretto, in the town square of Tavarnelle was not ashamed to play one of the scenes and was immediately approved for the lead role.

Director's Vision & Production technology

My childhood project joined professionals by the call of their hearts. All creative teams were involved, motivated by the idea to create films on such an important theme.

Two films, Blood and My University, were shot in black and white and color film “Kodak”.

At the time of making the first film, "Blood" became one of the first international projects initiated by the Ukrainian side. The aesthetics of the film was chosen for the effect of timelessness, which was preserved in subsequent parts of the project.

The film "Peasant’s Angel" is a combination of feature films and animation, which was specially developed on Western Ukrainian material (fine naive art, icons). The development lasted about six months, until the "exactly" characters of this story appeared in the pictures. The icon of the Peasant’s Angel was created by the project production designer and a priest Serhiy Vutyanov.

Having already Ukrainian and Georgian histories, the team has been choosing for a long time which part of the project will be final. In the preface to one of the books on Italian literature, the team came across a description of the book "Children of Italy". The book was searched in all libraries of Ukraine, but could not be found. One day the idea arose to search the archives of the Parliamentary Library, and it was there that the book was found in a single copy. As soon as I read, it became clear that the third story of the trilogy will be "La mia universita", created by Nino Palumbo.

Funding

The project became possible with the support of the Institute of Screen Arts of Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Kary Theatre, Cinema and Television University, with the support of Ambassador of Georgia to Ukraine, Grigol Katamadze, at the expense of the project team's personal funds and thanks to crowdfunding. As part of the project, two crowdfunding campaigns took place on the Ukrainian platform "Big Idea" and the global crowdfunding platform "Kickstarter". They were both successful. Representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora, who organized special screenings of parts of the project, sent donations to the team for the production of the film trilogy.

90 backers pledged €4,100 to help bring this project to life

As a result of different fundraising activities, the project was supported by more than 1,000 people

Screenings

The screenings of "My Childhood" took place in various film platforms in Ukraine, Europe and the world.
